Cash for Bass, Heavyweight American Opener 2016
It turned out to be a solid showing for weight at the Cash for Bass American Opener on June 18, 2016. It helps that this event drew some of the best smallmouth bass anglers in the state. Still, there is never a guarantee that the big girls will show up for “Opening Day” on Lake St. Clair, but show up they did.

During the run-up to this event St. Clair Report took a poll on what the results might be. Here are the results and what our readers thought might happen:
Will the tournament weights on “Opening Day” be:
Answer Percent
Heavier than last season 9.1 %
The same as last season 36.4 %
Lighter than last season 54.5 %
The poll shows an expectation that the weights for the first tournament day would be lighter than last season. We don’t know what created that perception but the reality shows that the weights were nearly the same, or ever so slightly better.
What we can expect going forward is an increase in tournament weights as we get closer to August. You can expect the ultimate weights to show up in tournaments in the fall.
