Lake St Clair Bass Report 05-20-2016 Wayne Carpenter

The weather has finally broken after a long stretch of harsh east and northerly winds. It was still brisk out there this morning but warm enough  to begin to bring the bass in shallow.

Nevertheless, it was pretty tough fishing overall. We worked a number of deep patterns that have been solid in recent weeks but they didn’t work out today. As we worked our way down the U.S. shoreline we hit spot after spot and only came up with a couple of smallies, a white bass and a carp.

One of the big issues right now on the U.S. shoreline is a preponderance of slimy algae. It is covering the bottom in key areas and goes on for miles and miles. Having that much algae around does two things: It tends to push the smallies out of the area and effective bottom presentations are rendered useless.

We ended up okay by the end of our day which you will see in the video report.

It was also a good day to see friends out on the water and find out how they did. Josh McGee and Mike Beals were up from Columbus, Ohio fishing Lake St. Clair and got in to some numbers and size today. They sent a few photos that show us how they did.
