Lake St. Clair Bass, Run Up to Canada Opener 2016

| June 23, 2016

So the spawn is over, or so it seems. The “main body” spawn is for sure but at least two anglers took dead bass home and reported back that they were full of eggs. We know that we will see beds up through August but it was still a little strange to get two reports like that on back-to-back days.

There will be perhaps ten or so tournaments on these waters in four days; Thursday through Sunday. A couple of them are tournaments with a big draw too.

The fishing pressure is heavy along the Mile Roads but now, Canadian water is opening up on Saturday and many anglers will choose to go there.

As you will see in the video we took a northerly route to scout out some bass and came up empty. You will hear me say from time-to-time that there is no such thing as bad information and it’s true. What we learned is that the bass are not yet on the move toward the channel system.

If you know the Canadian side well, you could probably head on over without having pre-fished it and do pretty well. Askin’s Point, Pike Creek, Belle Hump, Stoney Point, Mitchell’s Bay, The Stakes and more should have plenty of unpressured bass.

Smallmouth continue to eat Sweet Green tubes like they were bass candy!
