I have always loved fishing for smallmouth. It all started by an annual trip up north to a small river. I remember when the local bass fishermen would hear where I was from they would always say, “what are you doing up here? You have St. Clair.” Having never fished St. Clair before, I decided to give it a try.

It was a warm summer day, flat calm, bluebird sky and not a boat to be seen for miles around. After just a few casts I felt the pole load up and set the hook into my first true St. Clair smallmouth. I will never forget the feeling of that fight. It was in that moment when I finally landed the fish, that I was truly hooked on Great Lakes smallmouth fishing.
